The Senate has proposed a special courts for the prosecution of suspected rapists to accelerate the administration of justice.
The proposal was made during debate on a motion sponsored by Benjamin Uwajumogu on the urgent need to stop the increasing rate of child labour, molestation and abuse in Nigeria.
Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the plenary session, said the special courts would enable full enforcement of the laws on rights of children in the country.
Ekweremadu said a special court is needed to enforce the rights of the children because any child that is molested has a very slim chance of making it in life.
Moving the motion, Uwajumogu said there was a sudden rise in the rate of child labour, molestation and abuse in the country.
