The Executive Director, Institute of Agricultural Research and Training, Ibadan, James Adediran, has urged Nigerians to ensure proper management of the soil.
Adediran made the call in Ibadan, Oyo state on Tuesday at a forum organised by the institute to create awareness on the importance of the soil as the world marked the 2017 edition of the World Soil Day.
He advised stakeholders to learn how to properly manage the soil, stressing that the soil is the treasure of the present and future generations.’
He said the institute has the national mandate on soil research and had since inception in 1986 been evolving strategies for managing and improving the quality of the nation’s soil.
Adediran said this year’s celebration would witness competitions on soil-related issues among stakeholders such as youths and children.
